Les Amis du Monde diplomatique. The international association that Amis UK is a part of.
ATTAC. is "a network, with neither 'hierarchical' structures nor a geographical 'center'. Pluralist, it is enriched by the variety of its components and makes the common action easier without limiting it in any way, nor dictating their freedom of contribution. It wishes to reinforce its cooperation with all the other networks whose objectives converge with its own. Now has websites in 38 countries.
Indymedia. A network of individuals, independent and alternative media activists and organisations, offering grassroots, non-corporate, non-commercial coverage of important social and political issues. Many of the Indymedia sites allow readers to post their own articles.
War On Want. "fights poverty in developing countries in partnership and solidarity with people affected by globalisation. It campaigns for workers' rights and against the root causes of global poverty, inequality and injustice."
World Development Movement. WDM's campaigns tackle the underlying causes of poverty. They lobby decision makers to change the policies that keep people poor, research and promote positive alternatives and work alongside people in the developing world who are standing up to injustice.
The Panos Institute. A charity dedicated to providing information about the global South, and conversely, to influence the northern media to report a perspective and a voice from the South. It trains and promotes third-world journalists, and promotes informed public debate.
Interworld Radio – A network for radio stations and journalists, delivering news and programmes over the internet, in free, ready-to-broadcast audio programmes produced by local journalists all over the world. It connects an emerging movement of radio stations around the world covering global issues from a local perspective. (part of the Panos Institute)
Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom The Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom is an independent voice for media reform. They work to promote policies for a diverse, democratic and accountable media. Currently organising a web campaign to defend public service broadcasting in the run-up to BBC charter renewal, called CharterNET
BASIC The British & American Security Information Council is a progressive and independent analysis and advocacy organisation which researches and provides a critical examination of global security issues, including nuclear policies, military strategies, armaments and disarmament.

Civil Liberties
Statewatch. Monitors the state and civil liberties in the European Union.
Privacy International. A human rights group formed in 1990 as a watchdog on surveillance by governments and corporations.
Echelon Watch. A civil-liberties site that aims to promote public discussion about Echelon, the worldwide intelligence-gathering organisation.
Foundation for Information Policy Research. An independent body that studies the interaction between information technology and society. The site contains lots of information about the U.K.'s Regulation of Investigatory Powers Bill.

Participatory Economics. An attempt to define a social order that would fulfill the aims of traditional socialism, while avoiding the pitfalls both of market economies and of centrally planned economies
Open Organisations: This 'Friends' website is hosted at facilities which Open Organisations make available to us, and so we do recommend you take a look at the facilities they offer. Global Justice Movement - a name proposed as a positive alternative to the frequently used term of Anti-Globalisation, arguing the need for simultaneous progress across monetary, social, economic, environmental and peace justice indicators.
World Social Forum: The Social Forum, with local organisations worldwide, is an open meeting process where groups and movements of civil society opposed to neo-liberalism and a world dominated by capital or by any form of imperialism, come together to pursue their thinking and action.
World Future Council - aims for a global membership of wise thinkers, practical pioneers and young leaders. It will identify the "implementation gaps" between current practices and necessary measures to assure a sustainable and equitable world. As an institution representing humanity's common values, the WFC will provide an ongoing forum for debate and action.

Working Group on Global Ethics - British Studies Association Project headed by Christien van den Anker, an activity which has created http://www.globalethics.bham.ac.uk/ - A look at contemporary forms of slavery, including debt bondage, child labour, trafficking and abuse of migrant domestic workers, with case studies in four continents. Suggested possible action includes prevention and reparation, taxation and trade measures.
The Ilisu Dam Campaign - http://www.ilisu.org.uk/Set up by the Kurdish Human Rights Project, The CornerHouse, Friends of the Earth and Mark Thomas. The campaign worked to stop British involvement in the Ilisu dam and to highlight the wider implications of Britain's ethical foreign policy, sustainable development and its effect on peace and security in the region.

The Refugee Project is the brainchild of documentary photographer Bikem Ekberzade. Ekberzade started the project in the midts of the Kosovo crisis. Her aim was to try and shed light to the humanitarian crisis in the Balkan triangle of Albania-Kosovo-Macedonia.
